We’re going to talk about wine today.
Brazilians have been improving their wine consumption and learning about its characteristics. Although Spain’s relationship with wine is ancient, there’s record of grape farming since 4000 B.C.
In 2014 Spain became the world leader in wine production and it’s recognized around the world for its wines.
According to the Wine Institute data about wine consumption, Spanish people are in 7th place in the world ranking, with 10 million HL. Surpassing Argentina and Russia. USA leads the ranking, followed by France. They are the biggest wine consumers in the world, registering 32,1 million HL in 2014.
Italy and Germany are around 20 million HL, soon followed by China with 15,8 million and the UK with 13,9 million. These are the major consumers.
Insteresting data, right?
If you’ve become eager to know about the wine universe, we’ve made a list of some places where you can taste them and deepen your knowledge.
Vides, calle liberdad 12 – in the Chueca neighborhood. Downtown.
In my opinion this is a great option if you’re starting in the wine world and would like to have an enological experience. There’s a great variety of wines, from all around Spain. Little known wines from big and small cellars. Many of them not even on the market yet. You can also taste delicious Manchego cheeses. The atmosphere is popular, and it’s always full. So if you want to be seated you need to arrive early.
Vinoteca Maratin, Calle Moratin 36. Las letras neighborhood.
This one is on Madrid’s top 4. More than a wine bar, this is a restaurant. Praised on tripadvisor. Here you can taste all the best wines in Spain and around the world. Highly known wines. The food is really delicious. The style is more refined. This is the right one for you if you’d like to be quietly seated enjoying a great bottle of wine.
Vinoteca Barbechera; Calle Principe 27, Santa Ana square.
Easily found, in the heart of Las Letras neighborhood. Has a good variety of wines and tapas. It’s always full. The atmosphere is pretty eclectic because this wine bar is inserted in a tourist route. Both Spanish people and tourists visit this place and the prices are very affordable.
Xalavid, Calle Barbieri 20 , Chueca neighborhood.
This is a place I’ve been to a lot. Ideal for group visits. They organize the wine tasting and games with wine themes. A great place to discover quality wine. Through the website you can find out what the programming for the day will be. They offer a 3 wine menu+ 3 appetizers and desert for 25 euros. It’s a different concept from the wine bars above. Perfect for small groups that want an enological experience.
